RE:                Request to Place Emergency Measure on the Agenda for the April 10, 2018 Legislative Meeting

This is to request that the following measures be placed on the agenda for the April 10, 2018 Legislative Meeting:

  • Swampoodle Park Designation Emergency Declaration Resolution of 2018
  • Swampoodle Park Designation Emergency Act of 2018

The purpose of the designation is to officially designate the unnamed park in Lot 68 in Square 749, bounded by L Street, N.E., 2nd Street, N.E., K Street, N.E., and 3rd Street, N.E., in Ward 6, as Swampoodle Park.  Officially designating the park as “Swampoodle Park” will pay homage to the neighborhood’s history and community efforts to establish a park that will serve the needs of adults, children, and dogs.

Permanent legislation to effect the official designation is scheduled for first reading on April 10, 2018.  Enacting the legislation on an emergency basis will make the official designation effective sooner than congressional review and guarantee that the park signage will be installed before the park opens in mid-April 2018.

The proposed measures are attached.  Please call me or Sydney Hawthorne if you have any questions at (202) 724-7130.
