COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

MEMORANDUM
TO:
FROM:
Trayon White Sr. Councilmember Ward 8
DATE:
RE:
We request that the following measure be placed on the agenda for the February 4, 2020 Legislative Meeting:
- PR23-231 – Sense of the Council Urging Fair and Equitable Funding for District of Columbia Schools Resolution of 2019
This measure addresses the commitment of the District of Columbia to fund all District of Columbia public schools fairly and equitably. Funding for the District of Columbia public schools, both DCPS and charter schools, has not kept up with inflation, and the system is currently underfunded. Inadequately funding the education of at-risk students, coupled with reducing individual DCPS school budgets, contributes to declining enrollments in individual schools, leading to student exodus and funding cuts, and a cycle destructive to establishing quality schools.
We will be moving an amendment in the nature of a substitute. A draft of the ANS is attached. Should you have any questions, please call LeKisha Jordan (724-8137) on my staff.
