RE: Request to Place Measures on the February 1, 2022 Legislative Meeting Agenda

This memorandum is to request that the following measures be placed on the agenda for the February 1, 2022 Legislative Meeting:

▪ Ward Redistricting Technical Corrections Emergency Declaration Resolution of 2022

▪ Ward Redistricting Technical Corrections Emergency Amendment Act of 2022

The Ward Redistricting Amendment Act of 2021 was adopted on second reading by the Council on December 21, 2021 (D.C. Act 24-265). Identical emergency legislation (D.C. Act 24-264) was also adopted to establish the new boundaries as of January 1, 2022. As the Office of Planning was creating the official maps representing the new boundaries, two minor inconsistencies were discovered. First, an omission in a Ward 6 boundary line that was included in the Ward 7 boundary, and second, a direction error in the Ward 7 boundary line. These inconsistencies were corrected on a permanent basis in the Technical Amendments Act of 2022 (Bill 24-502).

This emergency legislation would correct the two errors immediately, and retroactively to January 1, 2022 to remove any ambiguity in the ward boundaries. Official maps produced by the Office of Planning and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer contemplate these corrections.
