This memorandum is to request that the following measures be placed on the agenda for the May 2, 2023 Legislative Meeting:

 

▪        Marion Barry Avenue Designation Emergency Declaration Resolution of 2023

▪        Marion Barry Avenue Designation Emergency Act of 2023

 

            The purpose of the designation is to officially designate Good Hope Road, SE, between Anacostia Drive, SE, and Alabama Avenue, SE, as Marion Barry Avenue, SE; to symbolically designate Marion Barry Avenue, SE, between the intersection of Naylor Road, SE, and 25th Street, SE, and Alabama Avenue, SE, as Good Hope Way; and to require the District to reissue certain documents to individuals and entities with new addresses on Marion Barry Avenue, SE.  The designations are effective as of July 1, 2023.

 

            Permanent legislation implementing official designation was adopted on final reading on April 4, 2023.  Enacting the legislation on an emergency basis will allow the District to begin implementing provisions of the law with respect to replacement documents in anticipation of July 1, 2023.
