This memorandum is to request that the following measures be placed on the agenda for the January 9, 2024 Legislative Meeting:

 

▪        Shirley Chisholm Elementary School Redesignation Declaration Resolution of 2024

▪        Shirley Chisholm Elementary School Redesignation Emergency Act of 2024

 

            The purpose of these measures is to officially redesignate the school now known as John Tyler Elementary School (Lot 841 in Square 974) as Shirley Chisholm Elementary School.

 

            Permanent legislation implementing official designation is scheduled to be adopted on final reading on January 9, 2024.  Enacting the legislation on an emergency basis will allow the District of Columbia Public Schools to implement the new name immediately, which is especially important as the SY 24-25 lottery process will soon begin.
